Split

Split, the second largest city in Croatia and "the capital of Dalmatia" had gradually developed around the palace of the Roman emperor Diocletian, built more than 1700 years ago.

From Diocletian's cellars, Cathedral and the Temple of Jupiter to the Golden Gate (Porta aurea), across the Peristyle and the Market (Pjaca) to the sunny sea promenade (Riva) and further up the Marmont street, past the fish-market and all the way to the Theatre: morning in Split brings you the atmosphere of a typical Mediterranean city.

Famous on the Split riviera is the ancient metropolis of Salona, the most important archeological site in Croatia, and Trogir, a charming stone town under the protection of UNESCO which takes pride in the fascinating Romanesque cathedral, churches, towers and beautiful palaces.

Hvar island

In the land of thousand islands, Hvar is among the most beautiful ones and certainly the most fragrant island of them all – 130 years in tourism! Its higly ranked works of art, purple lavender fields, top class wines made from the indigenous grape sorts are among the most prominent trade-marks of this island.

The city of Hvar will enchant you with its easy-going atmosphere, grand palaces, churches, monastery and cathedral, charming narrow streets, beautiful seaside promenade and the oldest urban theatre in Europe which is still running. Starigrad, Ancient Pharos, takes pride in Tvrdalj - the palace of the Renaissance poet and humanist Petar Hektorović. Vrboska is famous for its impressive church-fort and Jelsa will amaze you with its gastronomical diversity and beautiful cakes made in the local pastry.

Makarska

Makarska was inhabited in Roman times. The remains of Roman, necropolises, tombstones, inscriptions, steles, reliefs, coins, ornaments and dishes found in the Makarska coast are evidence today in many small local museums. Vepric is a famous sanctuary, a pilgrimage place. The Makarska Riviera is fifty kilometers of the most beautiful stretch of the Adriatic coast, a string of countless beaches in the shade of century-old pines and olives.

The Biokovo Mountain above, that awesome, proud and unconquered mountain with its magnificent barren cliffs, is the main feature of the Makarska Riviera, like a protective stone rampart over 1700m. Its barren and sheer cliffs make up an amazing backdrop for the resorts of the shore.

Zadar

Once a dominant city on the Adriatic coast and a rival of Venice, Zadar is nowdays a "city-treasury", preserving in its historical core the remains of the Roman Forum, the Church of St. Donat, the Romanesque Cathedral of St. Anastasia, the Church of St. Mary, the Benedictine Convent and a permanent collection of church art known as "The Gold and Silver of Zadar".

Numerous and rich cultural and artistic programs are also organized. They include the traditional Music Evenings in St. Donat, New Theatre Performances, Zadar Theatre Summer, as well as various visual arts exhibitions. The city celebrates the holiday of St. Krsevan, which is, at the same time, the day of Zadar (24th of November).
