IV. Hiking to 1234m - experience
a magnificent view of three countries
The
Hiking Tour starts from the village of Mihanici, and after twenty minutes
crosses an old railroad which was built in the times of Austro-Hungarian
monarchy . After one hour there is a short refreshment break in order
for the tour participants to enjoy the beautiful view of the Konavle
valley. Throughout the pine forest the tour reaches Kuna, a traditional
village surrounded by rugged landscape of dinaric karst. After a short
rest it continues on the trail that had strategic importance and was
built for the same reason in the times of Austro-Hungarian monarchy.
In about one and half hour of walking it arrives to the summit of the
Mt. Snjeznica (1234m) from which there is again a magnificent view of
the entire Konavle region, southern Dalmatian islands, Balkan Mountains
of Bosnia, Boka Bay of Montenegro, and on exceptionally clear days even
of the Apennine mountains of Italy.
On the top of Snjeznica there is also an ancient chapel carved in stone.
The last part of the trip will be the descent during which we will visit
some of wonderful belvederes with a view on Dinaric wilderness.
At the end we can visit the cliffs of Konavle where
we can take a bath and we can also visit Sokol fortress from medieval
times. Season: September-June.
