X. Moreška - a colourful sword flashing dance (KORČULA)

Listen out for the clashes of sabres as the Red King and the Black King march their armies into the town's piazza to fight over a beautiful damsel in a colourful dance called Moreska. With much sword-flashing and prancing, the dance evokes the Battle of the Moors and symbolizes the eternal struggle between good and evil.

It is a fitting setting for such a dance, for beyond the town's confines stretches a landscape where olive trees and vineyards struggle to bring forth fruit amid rocks and rough brush while men and women make a simple living fishing the waters off the small, picturesque settlements that dot the rugged coastline.
